Your engagement session is such an exciting photo session! It’s a time to celebrate your engagement and prepare for your wedding day with your photographer. We’ve talked about some hair and makeup tips for you during your engagement session. And we’ve chatted about general tips for your engagement session so it’s smooth. But now, it’s time to focus on those engagement session outfit tips!
Don’t Match!
Probably the most important tip? Don’t match, coordinate instead. Unless you match all the time, you probably don’t want to look like twins in your engagement portraits. Find outfits that you both love and feel comfortable in that have coordinating colors and patterns. Mixing up the color palette and finding complementary outfits can go a long way in how your portraits look! Play with the colors, lay out your outfits together and see what you think!
Stick to 2 Outfits
Most couples like to bring two different outfits with them: a comfortable one and a dressier outfit. This is totally up to you, but can help provide variety to your images! Both outfits should be comfortable and something you enjoy wearing. If you plan to purchase new shoes or accessories for your session, make sure you try them on beforehand too so you aren’t uncomfortable! PS – Casual doesn’t necessarily mean run down!
Watch the Patterns You Choose!
We encourage you to avoid small patterns for your session. Tiny patterns just don’t photograph well! We’d also avoid graphic t-shirts or very bright and obnoxious patterns. Find a medium size pattern you really like and run with it. Bold is GREAT! Bring personality to your session – but think about what photographs well, and what doesn’t.
No matter what you choose to wear, be comfortable and be confident. If you’re happy and comfortable in what you’re wearing for your engagement session, we’ll have a great time! Take a look through some of my previous engagement sessions on the blog for outfit inspiration!
